Cape Coast

So this last weekend the students and I went up to the Coast for a couple of days! We stayed at this hotel that have crocodile ponds and great food and it was nice. We toured 2 slave castles. Elmina Castle and Fort Amsterdam. It was amazing! The next day we went on the famous swinging bridge that is 80 ft in the air! Woah! It was really cool even though some of the students are deathly afraid of heights but they made it through. Then after that we took a nature walk through the rain forest and at that point the rain falling on our shoulders made it even more realistic. Then we ended there at about 11 am and then headed to the beach! It was kinda overcast but still warm and a little sunny. The waves were HUGE! I only went in a little because in Ghana there are deadly undertoes and im too small to be able to pull myself out of one. Otherwise it was a wonderful trip and this weekend i have nothing to do so we are going to go explore some markets we haven’t been to yet! Thanks for reading

SO i started school last week and it has been going pretty well just kinda difficult. Today i start math with my teacher, Kit. This weekend we are going to cape coast! I am so exited! We are staying at this hotel and they have crocodile ponds! Yay! We are going to see all the slave castles! it is going to be so cool! Well i am so hungry so i am going to get some food! thanks guys!

yes. I did it. It didnt hurt… it just felt like a big bucket of water being dumped on my head… So on saturday we went to a festival with the students and it was SO fun! Its called the Hmowa festival. Its for the GA people of the GA district… what they do is its a praise festival for being thankful for food… like there thanksgiving. The chief of the village goes around the district and sprinkles food on the group saying thank you to the ground for giving them food to eat when there was a famine. So what people do is follow the music and the chief sprinkling food and go all over town… And then there is a big ceremony where the chief comes out on a wooden lion suspended by people underneath in the air and they all dance and sing and celebrate. Theres really nothing like it! Its amazing! Also on sunday we went on tour of the city with the students and we went to this foundation that helps homeless kids and they are the happiest kids you have ever meet! They would ask me how old i was and freak out because i would be the same age as them and they thought they would have a shot with me haha! And i wear rings so they were asking if i was married… i said nope not yet… not for a looonnngggg time! And they got exited haha. So yeah my weekend was pretty good! yeah i know you are all saying well that took forever to post a new one! well i went on a 2 day retreat (witch went great!) about african christianity and i was busy! sorry about that!

Up bright and early

This morning we went out to breakfast with the students and i think that some of them are struggling with the homesick thing. It happens. Today they have a tour of the city and of campus plus orientation. There all pretty tired except for one girl. Shes very energized. Well they get there IDs today and then we really start our adventure. Thanks for all the wonderful comments on my post! And for all my fans and family and friends. Love you all

Now it really starts

Since the students got here today pretty soon we will be going on trips and walking in markets and being busier than we can imagine. We just has a wonderful dinner with the students and tomorrow is orientation and on Sunday we go to the Medina market witch should be fun because i haven’t been to an actual market yet and im exited. On Wednesday we leave to day trip to ahhh where is it! i cant think right now… sorry. i will get back to you on that but we will be gone for about 2 days and its our first real trip. My brothers birthday was on wednesday and we went to Cape coast to celebrate and we had a good day. Well i should get some rest. I stayed up too late last night finishing the Hunger Games and im scared that tonight i will do the same. If you havent read them than you should. There great. Love you all

So today the students come and i am so exited! On Wednesday we went to Cape Coast and saw crocodiles and made a reservation at a awesome hotel with croc ponds! I miss home a lot but im doing better than i was. I start school next week so that i can have a bit of vacation time too. One of the students is teaching me pre algebra. That will be fun! haha. I saw my sister on skype last weekend and that really made me very happy. I cant wait to see her again this weekend. Its kinda weird to thing that im over sees and a millions and million of miles apart. We have been talking about all of the trips were taking and it feels like we are going to be pretty busy. The most impressive thing i have seen so far is watching a women carry a refrigerator on her head like it weighed 10 pounds. I read the Hunger Games and i loved it more than anything in a long time. I immediately started the next one even though it was already 11 at night and we had to get up early but i didn’t care. So i got Mrs. Koop for my homeroom class and it has some fun people in it so kinda looking forward to that. I miss my tiny wittle kitty cat very much and my stupid dopey one. I do want to steal a monkey from my neighbor and i want to call him George but i will get some jail time if that happens. Is it worth it?

Well were here and I have bittersweet feelings again. I miss home very much and really want to see my sister but I’m getting There. There’s a mall here that the south Africans built that we went to on Saturday for groceries. We have a very strong Internet connection in the class room but nothing in out apartment. Today we drove to Kamasi to meet someone about a project and he wasn’t even there! An hours drive. we have been seeing many animals. Today we saw a monkey, cats, pigs, and on Saturday a cow in the back of someone’s truck. Yesterday we went to an amazing church service that was great. Well I have to go. I miss you a lot dad.

Well were here. I don’t know if i like it yet but im getting there. Im happy but also sad I miss a lot of people. But i know it will be better soon. I cant wait for the students to get here because then we get to do more fun stuff. 4 and a half months to go. Wish me luck

So right now I’m pretty sure the last thing i want to do is leave. I want to spend more time with my family before we go. My wallpaper on my phone is my sister, Sophie, and today i looked at it and started crying. I’m going to miss my family so much. Especially my Dad. But I know its going to be a great experience and a trip of a life time. When we get there the first 2 week will be very busy. That will be good. I don’t want it to feel different that home. I want there to be routine like we have at my house. My mom said that there will be. Just because were in a different place doesn’t mean that we cant have it be normal. There’s that word again. My favorite word. Normal. And its not like i cant keep in touch with my family. Of course i can! Right when we get there i am going to call my dad! Well as soon as we get a phone card witch is going to be one of the first things. If any of you want to text me or call me tomorrow, we don’t leave till late at night so i will be able to answer you. And i can tell you guys when were about to go out of the country. So wish me luck. Off to bed. Thanks for listening.
